Top 6 Fuel Efficient Diesel Cars In India - Which One Will You Pick?

It is true that fuel prices are soaring since a few years now and people are switching to electric or even CNG option as an alternative. However, those having long commutes where running is more than 1200 kilometres on a monthly basis still prefer diesel cars. Not only diesel is fuel efficient but is readily available in all parts of India. In this article, we will be sharing the list of the top 6 fuel-efficient cars available in India that return the highest fuel economy.

Hyundai i20

Hyundai i20 Diesel Cars

The only premium hatchback that is available with multiple engine options, it is the oil burner that is the most fuel-efficient unit of the one. The 1.5L diesel is the same as found in the new Creta but belts out less power and torque figures. The peak power and torque stick to 99 bhp and 240 Nm respectively. The ARAI-certified fuel economy is rated at 25.2 kmpl. It gets mated to a 6-speed manual transmission only.

One of the sporty-looking mass-market sedans in the country, Verna delivers a mileage of 25 kmpl with the 6-speed manual. It is also available with a 6-speed AT and the figures of that stick to 21.3 kmpl. Still, Verna is the only sedan in the segment to offer diesel automatic as an option. The peak power and torque stick to 113 bhp and 250 Nm, respectively. The diesel versions of the sedan is priced from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 15.44 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.

Honda Amaze

It is the only compact sedan in the segment to be offered with a diesel engine and that too with the choice of a manual transmission as well as a CVT. The 1.5L oil burner delivers an ARAI-certified economy of 24.7 kmpl with the 5-speed MT.

Kia Sonet and Honda City 5th Gen

Honda City

Both these cars are in for a tie and interestingly, both belong to different segments - one is a C-SUV whereas the other is a popular mid-size sedan. Both the cars are powered by a diesel engine of the same capacity but the power and torque figures are different from one another. The ARAI-certified mileage of both cars sticks to 24.1 kmpl.

Honda WR-V

It is the only crossover in the Indian market that is available with a diesel engine. The 1.5L diesel motor is the same as the fifth-gen City and it delivers an ARAI-certified mileage of 23.7 kmpl. This diesel motor pumps out 98 bhp of power with a peak torque of 200 Nm. In other news, Honda will soon discontinue the WR-V in March 2023.
