The Toyota Fortuner has been one of the most popular full-size SUVs in the Indian market since 2019. In 2025, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) launched the Fortuner and Legender models, featuring a Neo Drive 48V variant. This update includes a mild-hybrid setup for the brand's best-selling SUV in India. The prices for the Toyota Fortuner and Legender Neo Drive 48V variants are Rs 44.72 lakh and Rs 50.09 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. In addition to the mild-hybrid technology, these variants come with several new features. Toyota Fortuner & Legender Neo Drive 48V

The new Fortuner and Legender now feature a 48V mild-hybrid system. This system includes a belt-integrated starter generator and a lithium-ion battery. It enhances efficiency and provides smoother, more linear acceleration at low speeds, all while operating quietly. Additionally, this setup incorporates idle-start and stop technology for the Fortuner and Legender, as well as regenerative braking during deceleration. The new Neo Drive 48V variants will be identified with a Neo Drive badge and will include a Neo Drive boost assist function.

The brand has introduced a multi-terrain select system that automatically adjusts the throttle response, braking, and traction to provide superior performance across various terrains. Additionally, the Fortuner and Legender now come equipped with a panoramic 360-degree camera and a wireless charger. Despite these new features, both models retain the same set of features as before. The safety package still includes seven airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Vehicle Stability Control with Brake Assist, WIL Concept seats, Hill Assist Control, Traction Control System (TRC), a Child Restraint System, and more.

The Neo Drive 48V variants will be available with the 2.8-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine. This engine will now be paired with a 48-volt battery to offer better efficiency. If we talk about the specifications of this engine, it produces 204 PS of power and 500 Nm of peak torque with the AT gearbox and 420 Nm of peak torque with the manual transmission option.

Verdict

The new mild-hybrid setup in the Fortuner and Legender will help the customers to get better efficiency. The brand is updating the Fortuner with new features to make it more feature loaded and recent in the segment. With the new Mild-hybrid setup the Fortuner has become the only SUV in the segment to offer this technology to assist customers with better performance and mileage.
