Following the unveiling of the 2023 Tata Nexon facelift, the Tata Nexon. ev Facelift is now unveiled as well. With the price reveal slated for September 14th, both the ICE and EV versions follow similar design cues, although they differ in some areas as a result of the way they derive the power.

However, in this section, we take a look at the TOP 5 highlights of this upcoming EV.

1. Styling- Differentiating Cues

The EV version comes with several notable changes, including a single-tone body-colored finish for the upper part of the grille, whereas the internal combustion engine (ICE) variants feature a contrasting black shade for this area. Additionally, the lower part of the grille and the trapezoidal headlamp housings have a distinct slatted design, with functional air vents. However, the most distinctive feature of the EV is the full-width LED light strip that spans across the front, which if you think is just a visual element, think again! This light strip also serves a practical purpose by displaying the charging status of the vehicle.

2. Improved Range

Tata Motors has streamlined the naming conventions for their existing Prime and Max versions, opting for a more straightforward approach with Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR) designations. The Nexon EV's Medium Range variant is equipped with a 30.2kWh battery, providing an extended range of 325 km. Meanwhile, the Long Range variant features a larger 40.5kWh battery, which delivers an impressive range of 465 km (MIDC). Notably, both variants now offer an additional 12 kilometers of range compared to their previous specifications. While it may not look like a sizeable leap, when talking about numbers, it is always better to put them out.

3. Powertrain- Change In Figures

The latest Nexon EV features a Gen-2 permanent magnet synchronous motor, with a 20% weight reduction, a 30% decrease in rare earth materials use, and improved cooling and efficiency. Upgraded aerodynamics provide a 2% range increase. It offers a 0-100kph acceleration time of 8.9 seconds, a top speed of 150km/h, and reduced NVH. The Medium Range variant delivers 127 hp and 215 Nm, while the Long Range variant offers 143 hp and 215 Nm. Both come with a 7.2kW AC charger as standard. However, it is worth noting that while power remains consistent, torque has decreased by 30Nm in the MR variant and by 38Nm in the LR variant.

4. Features- Bigger Infotainment Than ICE Nexon With Arcade.ev

The top-spec Nexon.ev facelift boasts a host of standout features, including a class-leading 12.3-inch touchscreen, larger than the ICE Nexon's 10.25-inch screen, two-spoke illuminated steering wheel, customizable 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and touch-based HVAC controls. The cabin exudes a high-tech ambiance with minimal physical controls. Additional highlights encompass a 360-degree camera, connected car tech, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, an air purifier, fast charging type-C ports, a sunroof, JBL sound system, voice commands, OTA updates, and the new Arcade. ev app suite.

This is an interesting addition, particularly for times when you are docked at a charging station (I mean your car, obviously, if you are not a Transformer, who transitioned to an EV as well). When in Park Mode, the app facilitates the streaming of OTT platforms like Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar so that the occupants do not get bored and help you strike an episode or two, off your current watchlist. A thoughtful touch!

5. Launch Timeline And Expected Price

Considering the extensive technological, equipment, and mechanical enhancements it offers, the new Nexon EV will come with a premium price tag compared to the outgoing model. To provide context, the current Nexon EV is priced in the range of Rs 14.49 lakh to Rs 19.54 lakh. As for the price reveal, September 14th is the date reserved for the same.

Verdict

With the facelift unveiling, Tata Nexon.ev took a big leap ahead, not only from its rivals, but from its past self as well. Comparing the outgoing model, the design feels fresh, its tech list takes the centre stage, and the cabin feels more premium. While the new '.ev' branding will carves out a new identity for the Tata's electric vehicle arm, the 2023 Tata Nexon.ev facelift will spearhead its endeavours.
