Hyundai Aura, the sedan version of the Grand i10 Nios is launched. The compact sedan will be sold alongside the Hyundai Xcent and it will be the first in its lot to get a turbo petrol engine. There are more segment-first features the Aura packs. In this article, we compare the Hyundai Aura vs Maruti Suzuki Dzire, to know how both the sedans compete with each other.

The length of both these cars is the same but it is the width where the Dzire beats the recently launched Aura. The Dzire is also wider by 55 mm but lower by 5mm. The wheelbase of both the cars stick to 2,450 mm and the boot capacity of Hyundai Aura is 24 litres more than that of the Maruti Dzire's.

Hyundai Aura continues to use the same 1.2L, naturally aspirated petrol from the Xcent but now in BS6 form. It produces 83 bhp with 114 Nm of peak torque which is similar to that produced in Dzire. The transmission includes a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

Talking about the turbo petrol engine then it is derived from the Venue. The power figure gets detuned to a mere 100 bhp on tap and peak torque is 172 Nm, same like the Venue. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Hyundai continues the legacy of smaller diesel engine despite the upcoming BS6 emission norms. The smaller 1.2L CRDi, a turbocharged diesel engine is now tuned to BS6. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki Dzire will ditch the oil burner and will continue on petrol and alternative fuel like CNG. Both the cars provide a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
Also, Hyundai provides a factory-fitted CNG option too on the Aura and comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. The ARAI certified efficiency stays at 28.4 km/kg.

Interestingly, the base trim of the Hyundai Aura sits lower than the existing Xcent which starts at Rs 5.81 lakh. Also, it should be noted that the base diesel which gets BS6 engine sits at a premium of Rs 1 lakh above but the top-spec trim is just Rs 25,000 more when compared with the BS4 model. The bookings of the Aura have already started and let's see how the car take on the likes of Maruti Dzire.
