Carens CNG Launch Soon; Clavis EV Coming Next Month

Kia India is ready to diversify its lineup like never before, confirming a series of significant powertrain updates that mark a clear shift in strategy. After previously staying away from CNG, the brand has now officially acknowledged that its first CNG-powered car is in the pipeline, a move that could help attract cost-conscious buyers in a price-sensitive market. The bigger development, however, is the upcoming launch of the all-electric Kia Carens Clavis, expected as early as next month. Set to become the first affordable 7-seater EV in India, it's likely to carry a price tag of around Rs 20 lakh and will be offered in two variants. This model aims to bring family-friendly practicality to the electric vehicle space, a segment still largely dominated by smaller cars.

Kia is also looking to bring hybrid powertrains to India for the first time. Within the next two years, the company plans to launch a hybrid model, building on the success it has seen with hybrids in global markets. With CNG, electric, and hybrid models now all part of Kia India's roadmap, the brand appears to be positioning itself for a wider audience.

Kia Carens Clavis- An Overview

The Kia Carens Clavis features a premium beige and navy blue cabin, with a dashboard layout borrowed from the Syros SUV, including dual 12.3-inch displays and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Key features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 4-way powered driver seat, a Bose audio system, and sunshades for second-row passengers. Safety is covered with 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, all-wheel disc brakes, electronic parking brake with auto hold, ISOFIX mounts, and Level-2 ADAS. Engine options include a 1.5L NA petrol (115 PS/144 Nm), 1.5L turbo-petrol (160 PS/253 Nm), and 1.5L diesel (116 PS/250 Nm), paired with manual, iMT, automatic, or DCT gearboxes, depending on the variant. This is placed as a premium alternative to the Carens MPV, especially aimed at those who are looking for a more premium in-cabin experience.
Verdict
Kia Syros when launched was feared to cannibalise sales of its stablemates, rendering them useless in the long run, but the play of premiumness and elevated comfort played well and all the models have thier distinct place. The Kia CarensClavis is born out of the same intent and given the aggressive approach of the brand, the upcoming CNG trims and the Clavis EV will further make the choices in the MPV segment, a lot more revolving around Kia.
