Kia is making significant strides in the electric vehicle (EV) market in India, having recently trademarked eight new EV models, spanning from the EV1 to the flagship EV9. While the release of the Kia EV9 in India is already on the horizon for next year, the fate of the other models remains unconfirmed. Nevertheless, this move hints at Kia's potential to introduce a comprehensive lineup of born EVs in the Indian market in the future.

With the new filings positioned from EV1 to EV9, this could very much mean the positioning of the vehicles in the hierarchy. With the EV6 already on sale in the country, the EV9 will soon see the light of the day at showrooms.

Meanwhile, Kia EV6 happens to be the only electric vehicle under its portfolio and the new trademarks are an attempt to diversify its catalogue under the electric umbrella. The nomenclature of these models subtly reveals their varying sizes and positions within the lineup. Positioned at the base, the EV1 offers an entry point into the range, while the EV9 stands as the pinnacle of Kia's EV offerings.

The Kia EV5 recently made its debut in production form. A 4.6-meter-long SUV initially targets the Chinese market but is set to expand to other global markets over time. Importantly, Kia's trademarking efforts align with the eagerly anticipated Kia EV Day on October 12, promising further insights into the forthcoming models.

What To Expect?

Recently, a test mule resembling a Seltos-sized upright SUV was spotted in international markets, likely to bear the name EV4 upon its debut. With a length of around 4.2 meters, this model is expected to be a focal point for discussions during the upcoming Kia EV Day. This is something we have noticed earlier with manufacturers where an already hit product is making a shift from ICE to EV.

Furthermore, a teaser for the event has revealed the silhouette of an EV6-like coupe crossover featuring distinct LED lighting elements. The exact dimensions and positioning of this model concerning the EV6 are yet to be disclosed.

However, details about the body style and specifications of the remaining four vehicles remain undisclosed. It remains to be seen which, if any, of these models will be introduced to the Indian market. For more comprehensive information, we will have to wait for the Kia EV Day in 2023.
