MG Motors entered the Indian market in June 2019 with the MG Hector SUV. The MG Hector became an instant hit as it offered acres of space, a plethora of features and more. MG Motors is striving to be a pioneer in offering new-age technologies to Indian buyers. The Hector offered a ton of features and it was also called India's first Internet SUV. Now, the Hector has been in the market for nearly just two years but over the time, it has received plenty of upgrades. Now, the company has achieved a very special milestone with MG Hector. MG has rolled out the 50000th unit of Hector from its India plant.
Before we tell you the specialities of this milestone, let me quickly run you through the journey of Hector and also the journey of MG in India so far. So, as we have already mentioned before, Morris Garages made its India debut with the MG Hector in July 2019. Then, in January 2020, the company launched its first all-electric car in India, the MG ZS EV, and it was also very well received by the customers. Following the ZS EV, came the Hector Plus six-seater SUV in July 2020 and it was followed by the company's flagship SUV - MG Gloster. The Gloster was launched in India in October 2020.
But, MG just didn't stop here! As we all know, MG Hector is the best-selling MG in India and so the company always wants it to be fresh. Now, just last month, in January 2021, the company launched the new 2021 MG Hector Facelift along with the seven-seater Hector Plus. In February 2021, we got the updated 2021 MG ZS EV and the company also equipped the MG Hector petrol with a CVT, which is sold alongside the DCT variants. The MG Hector sells in very good numbers in India, with average sales of more than 3000 units per month. Now, MG has finally achieved a special milestone in India.
The company has rolled out the 50000th unit of the MG Hector from its Halol plant in Gujarat. This milestone becomes even more special because the 50000th unit of Hector has been built by an all-women crew. According to MG Motor India, currently, the company's 33 per cent of the workforce consists of women, and the company aims to increase that to 50 per cent. Before we end, let's see what the supremo of MG India has to say. Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director, MG Motor India, said, "MG has always been a progressive brand with diversity, community, innovation, and experiences as our cornerstones. We believe that it is something that has broadened our perspective as a brand and unlocked efficiencies in every aspect of our business operations. The rollout of our 50000th unit of the MG Hector by an all-women crew comes as an honour to their contributions and hard work. It also demonstrates that glass ceilings no longer exist even in an erstwhile male-dominated industry such as automobile manufacturing. We believe that it will inspire more women to join the automotive industry in India and abroad."
