Tata Nexon EV Becomes The First EV To Reach 50,000 Homes In India

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Tata Nexon EV reaches the 50,000 sales mark
  • First mass-market EV in India
  • Achieves the feat in around 36 months

Back when the EVs were making their way, the masses were skeptical about their longevity, range, and whatnot. But, Tata Nexon EV seems to have shattered the doubt as it becomes the first EV in India to cross the 50,000 sales mark in less than 4 years. In fact. 15% of the total Nexons sold happens to be the Nexon EV.

Let's look at what makes it a worthy car that made its way into 50,000 families.

Tata Nexon Sales Cross 50,000 Mark

After its launch back in January 2020, the acceptance of an EV and that too in a compact SUV mass market segment was under observation. But it soon performed better than the expectation. Now, just a little more than 3 years, it has made its way into 50,000 homes, the first-ever for any EV in India.

Nexon EV Features

Just recently, Tata Motors recently added its new 10.25-inch touchscreen in the XZ+ Lux trim and the EV Max Dark edition. It includes features like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, an upgraded reverse camera, and an integrated voice assistant. Other variants of the two EVs get the older, 7-inch touchscreen, single-pane sunroof, connected car tech, and auto climate control. The safety kit includes dual front airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, and cornering stability control.

Powertrains

The EV lineup consists of both the Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max. Nexon EV Prime comes with a 30.2kWh battery that has an ARAI-certified range of 312km. The Max, however, has a larger, 40.5kWh battery with a range of 453km (MIDC). Both versions get either a 3.3kW or a 7.2kW charger. The EV Prime can charge from 10-80 percent in 60 minutes using a DC fast charger, whereas the EV Max can charge from 0-80 percent in 56 minutes using a 50kW DC fast charger.

The EV Prime and EV Max both use a PMSM motor. Talking about the power figures, it puts out 129hp power and 245Nm of torque in Prime, whereas it develops 143hp and 250Nm in the Max version. With this, the EV Prime can achieve a 0-100kph time of 9.9secs (claimed) and the EV Max clocks the same in 9 seconds

VERDICT- Achieving the feat of the 50,000 sales unit mark is a remarkable milestone. While many doubt the slow-moving EV adaptability of the Indian market, the Nexon EV figures state otherwise.  Also, If you are someone with a passion for engines mounted on wheels, you must join our Whatsapp Group Community of petrolheads to find out more exciting stuff about the Auto world.
