Toyota Camry Recall: The Issue Explained

According to Toyota, the recall is linked to the Panoramic View Monitor (PMV), the brand's 360-degree camera system. A glitch in the parking assist ECU could cause the camera feed to freeze or fail to display entirely under certain conditions, such as when the ignition is turned on or off within a specific timeframe. This malfunction affects the image displayed on the car's 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, particularly while reversing.

While Toyota has not reported any safety incidents related to the issue, the company has chosen to act out of caution. Authorized dealerships will contact affected customers directly and perform the necessary software updates free of cost, ensuring the system performs as intended.

Camry's Premium Package Remains Unaffected
Launched in India in December 2024, the ninth-gen Camry continues to be one of the most feature-rich sedans in its class. It is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol-hybrid powertrain mated to an e-CVT, producing a combined 230 bhp and offering an impressive ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 25.49 km/l. Priced between Rs 47.48 lakh and Rs 47.62 lakh (ex-showroom) after recent tax adjustments, the Camry is available in two trims, Elegant and Sprint Edition.

The Sprint Edition, introduced earlier this year, adds cosmetic upgrades such as dual-tone paint options, ambient interior lighting, and puddle lamps, enhancing the sedan's already premium appeal. Both variants feature luxuries like a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a digital driver's cluster, powered ventilated front seats, three-zone climate control, and a nine-speaker JBL sound system.
Verdict
Toyota's swift recall of the Camry over the 360-degree camera issue highlights the brand's strong emphasis on quality assurance and customer safety. While the glitch is relatively minor, addressing it ensures the sedan maintains its reputation for dependability and refinement. With its hybrid efficiency, segment-leading comfort, and Toyota's responsive after-sales service, the Camry continues to stand tall as a refined, eco-friendly alternative to luxury sedans like the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series LWB, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
