It has been in news since a long time that Toyota will launch a compact SUV based on the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. This upcoming compact SUV will be basically a badge-engineered product. Just a few weeks ago, the company officially revealed that this upcoming compact SUV will be called the Toyota Urban Cruiser. The Urban Cruiser is based on the Vitara Brezza but it gets plenty of cosmetic changes to create its own identity and to lure the buyers. Now, the Japanese carmaker has also revealed the launch date of the 2020 Toyota Urban Cruiser and it will be launched on September 23, 2020.
As already mentioned above, this is a badge-engineered product as Toyota and Suzuki are now global partners and they share their offerings. The new Urban Cruiser is a Vitara Brezza underneath and it gets the same new BS6-compliant powerplant and almost same features. The new Urban Cruiser will be powered by a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre K-series naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This petrol motor will churn out 105 PS of maximum power and 138 Nm of peak torque. It will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The new Toyota Urban Cruiser will also get Maruti Suzuki's advanced Smart Hybrid Technology to boost the fuel economy. Talking about fuel-economy, the BS6 Vitara Brezza Petrol Manual delivers 17.03 kmpl while the Brezza's AT delivers class-leading 18.76 kmpl of mileage. Since the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser gets the same powerplant with identical power and torque figures, we believe the fuel efficiency figures will also remain more or less similar. The Urban Cruiser will be also loaded with features up to the brim. It will get a 7.0-inch touchscreen unit called Smart Playcast infotainment system. This system will get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, an engine start/stop button, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, etc.
Finally, talking about the variants of the car and its expected price. So, the new Toyota Urban Cruiser will be available in three trims - Mid, High and Premium. We already saw that the Maruti Baleno based Glanza was based on the top-spec trims of Baleno. Similarly, the variants of the Urban Cruiser will also be based on the top-spec trims of Vitara Brezza. It will be offered in six mono-tone colour shades and three dual-tone options. The launch date of the new 2020 Toyota Urban Cruiser has been revealed and we will come to know its price on 23rd September. For now, we are expecting it will be priced between Rs. 8.50 lakhs - Rs. 11.50 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi.
