Design: Familiar Yet Sharper

From the latest spy shots, the Starlight continues with MG's familiar design language but adds a fresh layer of sharpness and modern appeal. The SUV gets sleeker LED headlamps paired with sharp DRLs, along with a more upright and bolder front fascia that enhances its stance. A long, flat bonnet further adds to its road presence, while the alloy wheels appear similar in design to those seen on the MG Hector. Overall, the design feels more premium and mature, giving it a stronger presence compared to current MG models.
Interior & Features

MG is expected to significantly upgrade the cabin experience with the Starlight, focusing on a more modern and tech-forward layout. The SUV is likely to feature a larger infotainment system with an improved user interface, along with a minimalist dashboard design that reduces physical buttons. Comfort and convenience are expected to be enhanced with features such as ventilated front and rear seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and a 360-degree camera. In addition, it will come equipped with connected car technology supporting OTA (over the air) updates. The Starlight is also expected to be offered in both 5- and 7-seater configurations, making it a practical choice for families.
Powertrain: Where It Stands Out

This is where the MG Starlight could gain a clear edge over its rivals, especially with its electrified powertrain options. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version is expected to feature a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 20.5 kWh battery pack, delivering around 197 bhp and 230 Nm of torque. It could offer an electric-only range of up to 100 km, while the combined range is claimed to exceed 1,100 km, making it a highly efficient option for both city and long-distance driving.
On the other hand, the pure electric (EV) version is likely to come equipped with a 56.7 kWh battery pack, producing 136 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. It is expected to deliver a range of up to 500 km on a single charge, along with fast-charging capability that can take the battery from 30 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes. If launched as expected, the Starlight could emerge as Indias most affordable plug-in hybrid SUV.
Expected Price & Positioning
The MG Starlight 560 is expected to be priced between Rs. 20 lakh to Rs. 30 lakh (on-road). This puts it right in the heart of the competitive mid-size SUV segment, directly rivaling the Mahindra XUV 7XO and upcoming electric SUVs.

Verdict
The Starlight stands out with its choice of PHEV and EV powertrains, strong focus on tech, and a premium cabin, all backed by expected competitive pricing-making it ideal for buyers shifting from ICE vehicles. Overall, the MG Starlight 560 looks like a segment disruptor, and if priced right, it could attract tech-focused buyers, challenge rivals like the Mahindra XUV 7XO, and stand out with its plug-in hybrid option, which is currently missing in this segment.
