Tata Sierra EV Spied On Test: Launch Expected In May

The test mule spotted was evidently a Tata Sierra as clear from its tail lamps, clearly giving it away as the model. However, since the ICE models are already active, what remains is an EV and the AWD iteration. While the images do not clearly give it away, spectators reveal that this was indeed an EV with its silent nature and a missing exhaust. This also falls more in line with the launch plans of Tata to introduce the EV iteration this May 2026 with the AWD. expected at a later date. This will add another dimension to the Sierra nameplate and help to maximise its current sales volume.
The Tata Sierra EV will retain much of the design language seen on its ICE counterpart, including the upright stance, large glasshouse, and signature panoramic rear quarter windows. That said, the EV version is expected to feature subtle visual differences. These could include a closed-off front grille, EV-specific alloy wheels, and minor tweaks at the rear. The front fascia, in particular, is likely to carry a more distinctive EV identity compared to the standard model.

Interior & Features
While Tata has not officially revealed the cabin of the Sierra EV, it is expected to closely mirror the ICE version in terms of layout and equipment. The expected feature list is quite extensive. It may include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, and a 360-degree camera. Other highlights could include a head-up display, ambient lighting, a powered tailgate, and a triple-screen setup. Additionally, a premium JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos support, wireless smartphone connectivity, and connected car technology are also likely to be part of the package.
Powertrain, Battery & Range

Battery options are expected to include packs around 55 kWh and 65 kWh, with the possibility of a larger unit, potentially similar to the Harrier EV's 75 kWh battery, for higher variants. In terms of drivetrain, Tata is likely to offer both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations. The AWD version, powered by a dual-motor setup, could provide a significant advantage in a segment where such options are still rare. There is also speculation that Tata could use an integrated drive unit, combining key components into a compact system to improve efficiency and packaging. As for its range, it could offer a range of around 500 km on a single charge, however a lto depends on your driving style as well.
Once launched, the Tata Sierra EV is expected to sit below the Tata Harrier EV and above the Tata Curvv EV in Tata's electric lineup.
Verdict
The Tata Sierra EV looks set to become a key product in Tata's expanding EV portfolio. By combining familiar design elements with modern electric underpinnings and a feature-rich cabin, it aims to appeal to buyers seeking a practical yet premium electric SUV. Its success, however, will depend on how Tata positions it in terms of pricing and real-world performance, especially in an increasingly competitive mid-size EV segment.
