Renault Kiger vs Nissan Magnite

Let's start with what's powering these two sub-4 meter SUVs. Both come with two 1.0L, 3-cylinder petrol engine options. The first is a naturally aspirated unit, which can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The second is a turbocharged engine, offering transmission options of a 5-speed manual or a CVT.

Suspension duties at the front are handled by a MacPherson Strut, while the rear uses a twin-tube telescopic setup. Both SUVs offer a similar 205 mm of ground clearance. Lastly, the CNG kit option is available only with the 1.0L NA engine and 5-speed manual transmission.
Engine Options | 1.0L Na | 1.0L Turbo |
Power | 72 PS | 100 Ps |
Torque | 96 Nm | 160 Nm / 152 Nm |
Gearbox | 5-MT / 5-AMT | 5-MT / CVT |
Features

Both SUVs come loaded with features you'd expect in today's tech-savvy world, and with the facelift, Renault has made the Kiger an even better package. Now, the Kiger offers ventilated seats, an 8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree parking camera, automatic headlamps, and rain-sensing wipers. However, it still lags behind the Magnite in terms of features. The Japanese-built Magnite for India offers a bezelless IRVM, an intelligent key with remote engine start, and stands as the only car in its segment to offer a 10-year Nissan warranty.

In a nutshell, both cars share a similar set of features, with the key difference being that the Renault Kiger offers drive modes. On the other hand, the Magnite brings a few segment-first features that aren't available in the Kiger. So, that's the story of these two sibling SUVs.
Design

This is an area where 95% of owners will decide on which car to choose. As, this is the area where difference is drawn and for good only. So, with the facelift, the Kiger has gained a machismo and is appearing more bolder and expensive, with that very aggressive front end and sclupted bonnet. The front end has now recieved fog lights and the new Renault logo appears quite quirky. Also, there are two new colour options - Shadow Grey and Oasis Yellow.
Overall, the Renault Kiger targets young drivers who want to stand out with a bold, attention-grabbing SUV. However, its design may not age well or appeal to those who prefer timeless, more understated looks, as there's a lot happening at the front. On the other hand, the Nissan Magnite strikes the perfect balance, with an attractive, dynamic design and subtle curves that look stunning from every angle. It's also available in a black variant or the Nissan Kuro edition, which adds a truly premium aesthetic appeal.
This is where the lines are drawn, and the key reason to choose between the two. If you're after a more mature design that stands the test of time, then the Nissan Magnite is the one to go for. But if you prefer to stand out with a bolder, less minimalistic design, the Renault Kiger is the choice.
Price
The Nissan Magnite starts at Rs 6.14 lakh (ex-showroom), with the top variant priced at Rs 11.76 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the recently launched Renault Kiger starts at Rs 6.29 lakh and goes up to Rs 11.29 lakh (ex-showroom). However, these are introductory prices and are expected to change in the coming weeks.

Verdict
After considering all these factors, the difference is clear. The Nissan Magnite is positioned as a more premium offering, catering to both young and middle-aged buyers, with multiple engine options. In contrast, the Kiger is designed for those who prefer aggressive styling and want a cooler, more distinctive design over the regular. At their core, however, both SUVs are essentially the same.
