Fourth-Gen Hyundai i20 Spotted Testing; Details

From the silhouette, it appears that the fourth-generation Hyundai i20 will have a completely different design language compared to the current car. This has typically been the case with every generation of the i20. The roofline of the car is going to be rather sharp, but the familiar low-slung design will be carried over. We can also expect dual-tone alloy rims, and the window-line is also likely going to curve upwards as you move towards the rear.

The only visible cues to the car appear to be sleek headlamps, and the camouflage is slightly exposed at the rear. This opening hints towards a connected tail lamp setup, and the reverse lamps are mounted lower on the rear bumper.
Much like the current i20, the newer car is also going to measure above 4 metres in length, but it will also be re-engineered to fit under 4 metres and therefore be exempt from the sub-4m tax in the Indian market. The current car measures 3995mm, and this is highly unlikely to change.

Things remain rather unclear when it comes to the powertrain options on the fourth-gen i20. There were quite some rumours globally that the new i20 could completely ditch combustion engines and go the all-electric way. However, we are thankful to report that has not been the case, and the test car has been spotted with a very visible exhaust pipe.
That said, the fourth-gen i20 is likely to continue with the same set of 1.2-litre nat-asp petrol and the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol units. According to reports, the fourth-gen i20 is also likely to be available with a new 1.2-litre, turbo-petrol powertrain which is said to be under development. There are further reports that suggest the likelihood of a hybrid powertrain to be offered. What is for sure is that there will be no diesel engine option.

Not much is known about the interiors and features to be offered, but it will certainly be an upgrade over the current car's interiors. The new i20's interiors could possibly be inspired by the one on the upcoming next-gen Venue, which was recently spotted with a new blended screen setup and a new dashboard. The new i20 is also likely to come equipped with an ADAS suite, and a 360-degree camera also seems likely given the parking sensors seen through the camouflage.
Verdict
The new i20 is likely to make its global debut sometime in 2026, followed by an India-launch between 2027 and 2028. This generation change will be crucial, as Hyundai seems to have lost some ground in this segment, which has been dominated by the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, while the Tata Altroz is also generating interest with its latest upgrade.
