Mahindra Vision S Unveiled; Details

The Mahindra Vision S is going to be built on the hugely anticipated NU IQ platform, which will be capable of spawning both combustion and electric powertrains. Not much is known about what will exactly be powering the car, but Mahindra says that this platform is capable of spawning front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive cars. This is interesting for a lot of reasons we will delve into elswhere later. Despite being a monocoque platform, it has been designed keeping off-road applications in mind. Yet, at the same time it will also be city-friendly as well, similar to what the current Scorpio does.
The Vision S follows Mahindra's new Heartcore design language, and in terms of dimensions this is a rather compact car with very short overhangs. It gets thick cladding on the lower areas for protection, while elements such as the small jerry can, the ladder, the roof-mounted luggage carrier, the roof mounted lights and the spare wheel on the tailgate further highlight its off-roading intentions.

The design is properly boxy, with an upright, flat stance. The L-shaped projector headlamps are as seen from the teasers, while the grille appears to have illuminated vertical stacks on either sides, with the Mahindra twin peaks logo in the centre. The fog lamps lower down come with a quad treatment, and this can also be seen on the rear bumper. That said, bits like the roof mounted lights and the steel cables mounted on front-end of the car may not make it to the production-spec car.

The side profile is clean and minimalistic, and it reveals interesting details such as the flush-fitting door handles and cameras instead of traditional ORVMs. The Vision S also comes with aero alloy rims, with a five-spoke treatment. On closer inspection, you will also be able to spot 19-inch wheels. It will be interesting to see how this impacts the ride and handling of the production-spec car given the compact dimensions.

The mount for the spare wheel also gets slim lighting units, while the tail lamps mimic the L-shaped treatment of the headlamps. The rear bumper also gets a small skid plate treatment. Given the compact dimensions of the car, the Vision S may have decent boot space, but it may not be a seven-seater at all, which will be a radical departure from the Scorpio lineage.

Things are going to be modern on the inside as well, with sculpted A/C vents, which will divide up the infotainment screen and the instrument cluster. The car will get the upcoming NU IQ software, which will give it customizable themes, four drive modes, and integrated navigation to name a few things. The centre console will feature a mix of both buttons and touch controls, and the car will also come with an electronic parking brake. Additionally, if you look closely, you will also be able to see a panoramic sunroof as well.
Mahindra says the NU IQ platform SUVs will enter production from 2027 onwards, but many other details are being kept under tight wraps. That said, we can expect the car maker to share further insights closer to launch.
Verdict
The Vision S seems to be interesting, given that it offers a blend of both city and off-road applications, similar to the current Scorpio. With the NU IQ platform, there are many things that are going to be a major departure from the current Scorpio, and for now we can only wait and see how the production-spec car turns out.
