Tata Altroz is offered in both petrol and diesel engine options and rivals with the likes of Maruti Baleno and the recently launched Hyundai new i20. We have provided the sales breakage of all the premium hatchbacks present in the segment right now!
Even with the launch of new i20, the numbers do not seem as far as much. Where Hyundai sold 8004 units of the new i20, Tata still managed a decent 6600 of the Altroz.
Tata Altroz comes in both 1.5L turbo petrol and a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine. The latter is a straight-up derivative from the Tiago with no power change at all. It makes 85 bhp with a peak torque of 113 Nm. The oil burner is a detuned version of the 1.5L diesel we get to see in the Nexon.
The diesel is punchy and has immense torque which makes both city and highway driver easier. The diesel makes 89 bhp with 200 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines get a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard only.
The more powerful turbo petrol variant of the Altroz is coming soon and this engine will be the same 1.2L Revotron turbo petrol which we see in the Nexon. However, to deliver the right fuel economy, the power figures have been detuned and this now makes 110 bhp with 140 Nm of peak torque. On its launch, a 5-speed manual gearbox will be observed and later stages will involve the 7-speed DCT unit.
The turbo petrol engine will also be seen in a new shade that is the Marina blue shade. Other than the mechanical changes, rest remains the same on turbo variant of the Altroz. Expect to see the turbo badging on the bootlid of the upcoming model. The prices of the premium hatchback start from Rs 5.44 lakh and the top model fetches till Rs 9.09 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The prices of the turbo petrol variant are yet to be announced.
