Kia Carens Clavis vs Hyundai Alcazar

Both these cars are built on the same Hyundai-Kia K2 platform, which is also the basis of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. But Carens Clavis is an MPV, while the Alcazar is an SUV. Moreover, the Alcazar starts at Rs 15 lakh and goes up to Rs 21.73 lakh (ex-showroom). As per our speculations, the top variant of Carens Clavis will not exceed the Rs 21 lakh asking price, so a comparison on what each offers will provide insights about both cars. So, first start with all the things that are common in these vehicles:
Engine Options
Carens Clavis and Alcazar shares similar engines - a 1.5L turbo Petrol 4 cylinder engine making 160 PS and 253 Nm of torque, and the gearbox option are - 6MT and 7-DCT, common in both cars. However, in Clavis, another gearbox called - 6iMT, is also there with this engine. The second common engine is a 1.5L Diesel making 116 PS and 250 Nm of torque, with a 6MT and 6AT. Now, in Clavis, there another engine, a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine churing out 114 PS and 143 Nm of torque, and the transmission option is just 6-MT.
This suggests that the Alcazar caters to individuals seeking a premium, high-end experience with powerful engines. On the other hand, the Clavis offers a naturally aspirated engine, becoming the reason why it will start at around Rs 11 lakh.
Engines | 1.5L Na Petrol | 1.5L Turbo Petrol | 1.5 L Diesel |
Clavis | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Alcazar | No | Yes | Yes |
Power | 114 PS | 160 PS | 116 PS |
Torque | 143 Nm | 253 Nm | 250 Nm |
Transmission | 6MT | 6MT/7DCT/ 6iMT (Clavis) | 6MT/6AT |
Dimensions

Built on the same platform, but both look poles apart from each other - despite having quite similar dimensions. The Carens Clavis is an MPV with superior looks that takes forward the legacy of Carens, with more premium appeal. Now, Kia has integrated several design elements from bigger models like the EV6 and EV3 and given it a sort of EV look. That said, the elegance quotient of this car has definitely taken a step up.

The Hyundai Alcazar appears muscular, boasting a commanding road presence with its bold aesthetics. From a distance, it closely resembles the Creta, but that impression fades as you get closer and realize it's a more premium, extended version of the Creta - complete with a third row. So, if you prefer an SUV with a strong stance, the Alcazar is the one to go for. On the other hand, if you're looking for a large, practical, and stylish vehicle with a touch of charm, the Clavis is definitely worth checking out.

Cars | Hyundai Alcazar | Kia Carens Clavis |
Length | 4560 mm | 4550 mm |
Width | 1800 mm | 1800 mm |
Height | 1710 mm | 1708 mm |
Wheelbase | 2760 mm | 2780 mm |
Features on Offer
Common features on Hyundai Alcazar and Kia Carens Clavis:
- Panaromic Sunroof
- Wireless Charging
- Air Purifier
- Level 2 ADAS
- Captain Seats (2nd Row)
- 4 Wheel Disc Brakes
- Front Ventilated Seats
- Bose Premium Sound System with 8 Speakers
- Ambient Lights

Surprisingly, only these features are common in both cars, as the new Carens Clavis has stepped up big time. Firstly, it gets a 26.62-inch panoramic display consisting of a 12.25-inch infotainment display and a 12.25-inch driver's display. Also, the central console screen also does two jobs at the same time - one is to offer controls for AC, and at the tap of one button, it turns into an external screen with switches to operate the infotainment. Moreover, the steering wheel is all new, called Double D-Cut steering, which we have seen in the Kia Syros.

However, as we talk about the second row, the Alcazar is just another game altogether. Since its captain's seats also get ventilation, this one just takes the game forward. Plus, the seats also get thigh cushion extensions, which elevate their comfort level. Moreover, the left rear passenger also has the option to electrically slide away the front passenger seat and tilt forward all through buttons. Lastly, this seat also has a retractable IT device holder and cup holder, and there's a wireless charging pad also.

In Carens Clavis, the captain's seats don't provide any ventilation, and there is no rear wireless charging like Alcazar. However, they can be adjusted manually and have tilt and slide functions. Also, with just one-touch tumble, the second-row seats fold, making passage for the 3rd-row passengers. The drive review of Clavis will drop soon on 91Wheels, but you can check out the review of Alcazar for now.

Verdict
Kia Carens Clavis is ready to elevate the Carens nameplate, and it will launch in the last week of May, as per our sources. This car now offers more features along with a 6-MT gearbox option with a 1.5L turbo petrol engine, so that would be interesting to see how it performs. Moreover, from this comparison, clearly, the Alcazar appears to be more of an exciting option, but its 3rd row isn't as spacious as we get in the Carens, and it feels like a 5+2 seating configuration, not a proper 7-seater. So, this fact should be kept in mind if the main focus is buying a large car.
