In India, more people are choosing to use electric cars on a daily basis. As more people become aware of the advantages of EVs, major metropolitan cities are taking the lead in pushing the electric car market. While some brands have already entered the electric vehicle industry, others are still considering their possibilities. The Indian market for electric vehicles is still in its development, though, as the country's EV infrastructure is weak and falls short of that of other developed countries. A new generation of EVs are being introduced by brands for the Indian market due to the growing popularity of EVs. In India, Tata Motors currently dominates the market for electric vehicles. The Tigor EV sedan is one of the brand's 4 EVs currently being sold in India. The 26kWh battery pack in the Tigor EV allows for power output of 55kW (73.7 bhp) and peak torque of 170 Nm. The EV has a 315 km range, according to ARAI. In terms of features, it has numerous drive modes, multi-mode regenerative braking, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system from Harman, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, TPMS, twin front airbags, and other amenities. Price ranges from Rs 12.49 lakh (ex-showroom) to Rs 13.75 lakh for the Tigor EV (ex-showroom).

One of the most popular electric vehicles sold in India is the Tata Nexon EV. The Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max are the two types available, and they differ in terms of battery capacity. A 30.2 kWh battery pack and an electric motor producing 129 bhp and 245 Nm of maximum torque are included with the Nexon EV Prime. The Nexon EV Max, on the other hand, has a bigger 40.5 kWh battery pack that can provide 143 bhp of power and 250 Nm of peak torque. The former's claimed range is 312 km, while the latter's is 437 km. Retail prices for the Tata Nexon EV Prime range from Rs 14.99 lakh to Rs 17.50 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the Nexon EV Max is priced between Rs. 18.34 lakh and Rs. 19.84 lakh (ex-showroom) (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Kona - ARAI Range 452 km

The Kona electric has been introduced in India by Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) in 2019. In India, Hyundai currently exclusively sells this EV. The 39.2 kWh battery pack in the Hyundai Kona generates 134 bhp and 395 Nm of maximum torque. The Kona Electric has a 452 km claimed range by ARAI. The Hyundai Kona has a tonne of amenities, both in terms of safety and convenience. Currently, the Hyundai Kona retails for Rs 23.84 lakh to Rs 24.02 lakh (ex-showroom) (ex-showroom).

MG ZS EV - ARAI Range 461 Km

MG's only electric vehicle currently for sale in India is the ZS EV. There are two MG ZS EV models available: Excite and Exclusive. Both models include a 50.3 kWh battery pack that has a maximum output of 174.3 bhp of power and 280 Nm of torque. The ZS EV's claimed range, according to ARAI, is 461 kilometres. The car has a good number of convenience and safety elements in terms of features. Starting at Rs 22.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the ZS EV costs up to Rs 26.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

BYD Atto 3 - ARAI Range 521 Km

The newest electric vehicle to enter the Indian market is the BYD Atto 3. The BYD (Build Your Dreams) Atto 3 is the company's second electric car offering in India. The EV has a 60.48 kWh battery pack and can generate 201 bhp of power and 310 Nm of peak torque. There are a tonne of gadgets and gimmicks in the SUV. The availability of ADAS is one of the most noteworthy features (Advanced Driver Assistance System). The price of the single variation BYD Atto 3 is Rs 34.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Kia EV6 - ARAI Range 708 Km

In June, Kia introduced the EV6, the company's first electric vehicle, in India. In the Indian market, the brand's flagship car is the EV6. It has a 77.4 kWh battery pack that can generate up to 320 bhp of peak power and 605 Nm of peak torque. There are RWD and AWD versions of the EV6. The EV6 electric has a 708 km ARAI range. On the feature front, it has two 12.3-inch screens, a 10-way power adjustable driver seat with memory function, ventilated driver and passenger seats, UV glass, dual-zone climate control, multiple driving modes, rain-sensing wipers, and LED DRLs and headlights, to name a few. The Kia EV6 comes with a price tag of Rs 59.95 lakh (ex-showroom) for the RWD variant and Rs 64.95 (ex-showroom) for the AWD GT variant.

Verdict: There are a good number of electric vehicles available in India in different price segment. To eliminate the range anxiety aspect, the brands are aiming to increase the range of electric vehicles.
