Tata Altroz CNG AMT Launch Soon Likely

The recently updated Tata Altroz has retained its versatile powertrain lineup, continuing to offer petrol, diesel, and CNG options, along with a new AMT variant for the petrol engine. However, one key omission at launch was the absence of an AMT with the CNG powertrain, something Tata Motors is now expected to address in the coming months. While there's no official word yet, some online sources indicate that an Altroz CNG-AMT variant is on the horizon, aligning with Tata's strategy of offering convenience across its alternative fuel models.

In fact, Tata is currently the only manufacturer in India offering an AMT with CNG powertrains, already seen in the Tiago and Tigor. Given that the Altroz shares the same 1.2-litre engine with these models, similar output figures of 73 hp and 95 Nm are expected, along with the familiar dual-cylinder CNG tank layout. While the absence of an automatic option for CNG users felt like a gap at launch, it now appears to be a calculated delay, with Tata poised to enhance the Altrozs appeal even further.
Interior And Features

The refreshed Tata Altroz brings a more premium and thoughtfully designed cabin that elevates the in-car experience. It now features a stylish new dual-tone interior theme, improved seat cushioning, rear adjustable headrests, a centre armrest with cupholders, and a flat-bottom steering wheel with illuminated controls, blending comfort and convenience for both front and rear passengers, especially during long journeys. In terms of tech and equipment, the Altroz now punches above its weight class, with a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system by Harman, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, complemented by a 10.25-inch digital driver's display with integrated navigation.

Catering to the tech-savvy, it also packs in features like wireless charging, Tata's iRA connected car suite, touch-based auto climate control, cruise control, electric ORVMs, and a single-pane sunroof, making the Altroz not just safer and smarter, but a lot more desirable. It now also ups the ante with six airbags as standard, along with key safety enhancements like a 360-degree camera, blind spot detection, TPMS, and 3-point seatbelts for all occupants.

Engine Details

The updated Tata Altroz retains the same set of powertrains as its predecessor, offering three engine options to cater to a wide range of buyers. These include a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 88 PS and 115 Nm of torque, available with either a 5-speed manual, a newly introduced 5-speed AMT, or a 6-speed DCT (depending on the variant). There's also a 1.2-litre petrol + CNG version, which delivers 73.5 PS and 103 Nm, paired exclusively with a 5-speed manual gearbox. For those seeking better efficiency and torque, the 1.5-litre diesel motor remains on offer, producing 90 PS and 200 Nm, also mated to a 5-speed manual.
Verdict
The omission of a CNG AMT with the Altroz was taken with a pinch of salt, which is obvious given that Tata Tigor and Tiago offers the same combination. But with a launch possible in the coming two months, the convenience factor with the updated powertrain option is surely going up. As for the Altroz, it is now aheads of its game with a cabin experience that surpasses what it used to be and truly justifies its premium hatchback tag. While I am all for tech and modernity, that cannot be said for the touch-based HVAC controls, which although looks modern, is a little inconvenient in my opinion. Rest everything, is just a class above!
