Tata Sierra EV Launch This Diwali, As Per Top Officials

The Tata Sierra nameplate is not new, and while the brand has kept its roots alive with its Safari revamp, the Sierra made sense to join the fray. The EV first strategy works more in tandem with Tata's newly found pioneering portfolio in the electric vehicle segment, which until now, is one of the most comprehensive in the market. The news for the Sierra EV launch this Diwali is from a Dealers and Investors meet, where the electrified version has been confirmed for Diwali 2025 and the ICE-powered trims for an early 2026 launch. The Sierra EV pays homage to the original three-door SUV with signature wraparound rear glass, upright proportions, and sharp lines, while meeting today's safety and practicality standards.

Spy shots from cold-weather testing in Leh earlier reveal a design close to production-ready, with minimal camouflage and coupe-SUV styling. Built on the flexible Acti.ev architecture, it will support both rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations. Inside, the Sierra EV will debut Tata's most advanced cabin yet, featuring a full-width triple-screen setup, digital driver display, central infotainment, and passenger-side screen. A four-spoke steering wheel with illuminated Tata logo, ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, and a Level 2 ADAS suite are expected. Buyers will be able to choose between a conventional five-seat layout or a four-seat 'lounge' configuration with individual rear chairs, marking its distinction from its rivals.
EV Powertrain & Range
Although final specs aren't out, the Sierra EV is expected to use the 65 kWh and 75 kWh LFP battery packs from the Harrier EV. The smaller pack, paired with a rear-mounted motor, claims a range of up to 627 km (MIDC), while the larger dual-motor AWD setup delivers around 622 km. Actual Sierra EV figures could vary slightly, but both single- and dual-motor variants are expected, the latter offering genuine off-road capability.

Tata will broaden the Sierra lineup with internal combustion engines in early 2026. The range will start with a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, later joined by a 170 PS/280 Nm 1.5L turbo-petrol. The diesel option will be the proven 2.0L Kryotech turbo-diesel from the Harrier, producing 170 PS and 350 Nm.
Pricing for the Sierra EV is likely to start around Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it just below the Harrier EV. With this strategy, the Sierra will compete directly against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Grand Vitara, while also offering something unique in design and capability.
Verdict
The Tata Sierra's return is more than just a nostalgic revival, it's a calculated move to cement Tata's presence in the premium SUV market. With the EV arriving in time for Diwali 2025 and ICE trims following in early 2026, the Sierra will cater to both forward-looking EV adopters and traditional SUV buyers. If Tata delivers on the promised range, tech, and build quality, the Sierra could become one of the most desirable all-rounders in its class, successfully blending its legendary past with a future-focused edge.
