Tata Motors brought back the Sierra in a modern avatar with contemporary features in 2025. The SUV garnered a great response from customers and brought back a wave of nostalgia. Now, in 2026, the brand has launched the Sierra EV, the electrified version of the Sierra, at a starting price of Rs 18.79 lakh (ex-showroom). The new Sierra EV boasts a similar design, an almost identical feature set, but a completely different powertrain. Tata has previously introduced several models in both ICE and EV forms, and the Sierra now joins that list. In this piece, we'll take a look at the key differences between the Sierra EV and the Sierra ICE.

Pricing & Variants - Which One Is More Accessible?
The brand has launched the Sierra EV at Rs 18.79 lakh (Ex-showroom). Available in 5 primary variants, the Sierra EV prices go up to Rs 25.99 lakh (Ex-showroom). The Sierra ICE, on the other hand, comes with a much lower price tag of Rs 11.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 21.99 lakh (Ex-showroom).
Exterior – Similar Design, EV-Specific Details
The Sierra EV and the Sierra ICE look nearly identical at first glance, but there are a few noticeable design differences. Up front, the ICE version features a blacked-out grille and the standard Tata logo used on the brand's ICE vehicles. The Sierra EV, on the other hand, gets a blanked-off, body-coloured front panel, the Tata.ev logo with a white background, and a sleeker, more streamlined connected LED DRL signature. However, both versions feature a bold front bumper with a silver skid plate, front parking sensors, and rectangular LED headlamps.
In profile, both SUVs get identical 19-inch alloy wheels on the top-spec variants. However, the Sierra.ev features aerodynamically optimised wheels designed to improve efficiency. Another distinguishing element is the badging—while the ICE model gets 'Sierra' badging on the front doors, the EV version features 'Tata.ev' badging.
At the rear, both versions share an almost identical design, including the tailgate, bumper with silver skid plates, hidden rear wiper, and an integrated roof spoiler.
Interior – Familiar, Yet Different
The cabin layout of the Sierra RV is largely identical to that of the Sierra ICE, with the key difference being the interior theme. Both SUVs feature a triple-screen dashboard comprising a digital instrument cluster, a central infotainment touchscreen, and a co-passenger display. They also get a two-spoke steering wheel and a clean, minimalist dashboard layout. The cabin feels premium thanks to the extensive use of soft-touch materials on the dashboard and door pads. However, the Sierra.ev gets a light ivory cabin theme, while the ICE version comes with a darker interior colour scheme.
Several premium features remain common across both SUVs, including a panoramic sunroof, rear window sunshades, Boss Mode, a powered driver's seat, wireless charging, an electric tailgate, and more.

Powertrain - The Biggest Difference
This is the part where these two are way apart from each other. The Tata Sierra ICE comes with 2 engine options Petrol & Diesel. These two engine options are divided into multiple variants and different transmission options. Also, the ICE version comes with an FWD setup. The Sierra EV, on the other hand, is built on the Acti.ev architecture and boasts an all-electric powertrain. Available with two battery pack options, the Sierra EV also offers an option of Quad-Wheel Drive (QWD) or AWD setup with dual motors. The performance numbers of the Sierra EV and the Sierra ICE are given below.

What's Our Take?
Compared to the Sierra ICE, the Sierra EV makes more sense to customers who want an electric vehicle with a more capable drivetrain. The Sierra ICE has one limitation and a few fewer features compared to the EV version. It is available only with a FWD setup. For those who wanted a Sierra but were skeptical about the FWD configuration, the Sierra EV addresses that with its quad-wheel-drive (QWD) setup. The main USP of the Sierra EV is its dual-motor AWD system. It is the only mid-size electric SUV in its segment to offer an all-wheel-drive setup, which is likely to attract adventure enthusiasts who want to take their vehicles across different terrains.
The Sierra EV also stands out with its long list of convenience and safety features, making it one of the most feature-loaded offerings in the segment. However, one concern is software reliability. Tata vehicles have been known to experience software glitches, and compared to ICE vehicles, EVs rely more heavily on software and advanced technology, making them more prone to such issues. Additionally, Tata Motors' after-sales service is not considered among the best in the industry, which could be a drawback for potential buyers.
