The premium SUV segment in India has long been dominated by the Toyota Fortuner, thanks to its rugged reliability and strong brand image. However, MG is challenging that dominance with its all new full size SUV, the Majestor, a feature-loaded flagship SUV positioned above the Gloster. While the Fortuner focuses on durability and proven mechanicals, the Majestor aims to attract buyers with its larger dimensions, modern technology and luxurious cabin experience. Here's a detailed comparison between the two SUVs. Meanwhile, make sure to join the 91Wheels WhatsApp Channel to never miss out on automotive updates.

Design
Both SUVs have strong road presence, but they appeal to buyers differently. The Toyota Fortuner carries a muscular and rugged design language, especially in the Legender version. The MG Majestor, on the other hand, focuses on sheer size and luxury appeal with a larger footprint and bold styling elements.
| Dimension | MG Majestor | Toyota Fortuner |
| Length | 5046 mm | 4795 mm |
| Width | 2016 mm | 1855 mm |
| Height | 1870 mm | 1835 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2950 mm | 2745 mm |
| Ground Clearance | Up to 219 mm | 225 mm |
| Styling focus | Premium and futuristic | Rugged and muscular |
The Majestor's massive grille, connected LED lighting and upright stance make it look more premium and attention-grabbing. Meanwhile, the Fortuner continues to attract buyers who prefer a traditional SUV design with a commanding stance.
Engine and performance
The two SUVs follow very different engineering approaches. MG uses a smaller twin-turbo diesel motor paired with a more advanced automatic gearbox, whereas Toyota sticks to a larger-capacity diesel engine focused on torque and reliability.
| Specification | MG Majestor | Toyota Fortuner |
| Engine | 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel | 2.8-litre turbo diesel |
| Power | 215 hp | 204 hp |
| Torque | 478.5 Nm | 500 Nm |
| Transmission | 8-speed AT | 6-speed MT / AT |
The MG feels more refined and smoother during highway cruising thanks to the 8-speed automatic transmission and off-roading in Majestor becomes a cakewalk with its 10 different off-road modes and M-Crawl (self crawling feature). The Fortuner, however, delivers stronger low-end torque and feels more robust during overtakes and off-road conditions. Toyota also offers petrol and manual gearbox options, giving buyers more flexibility. Both the SUVs have three drive modes as well but Majestor has 3 different modes for steering as well.
Interior & Features
This is where the MG Majestor gains a clear advantage. The Fortuner's cabin is practical and durable, but it feels dated compared to newer rivals.
| Features | MG Majestor | Toyota Fortuner |
| Infotainment screen | 12.3- inch touchscreen | 8-inch touchscreen |
| Instrument cluster | 12.3-inch (Fully digital) | Semi-digital |
| Sunroof | Panoramic Sunroof | No |
| ADAS | Level 2 ADAS | Not available |
| Ambient lighting | Yes | No |
The MG offers a far more premium experience with soft-touch materials, larger displays, ambient lighting and advanced driver assistance systems including ventilated and massage seats, electric adjustable seat in front, more practical storage space. The Fortuner focuses more on functionality and long-term durability rather than luxury features. However, both the SUV have a 360 degree camera to make it easy to handle the car in tight space, especially while off roading.
Off-road capability

The Toyota Fortuner is a legend for a reason. Its 4WD system is simple and tough. If you get stuck in a river or a muddy trail, you trust the Toyota to get you out because there are fewer electronic sensors to go haywire. Its a "mechanical" beast.
The MG Majestor, however, tries to make off-roading easy for everyone. It comes with something called M-Crawl, which is basically cruise control for rocks. You take your feet off the pedals, and the car crawls over obstacles by itself. It also has triple differential locks (front, middle, and back), which is something usually found in much more expensive luxury SUVs. It's very capable, but it feels more like a computer is doing the work for you.

Verdict
Go for the MG Majestor if you want to feel like a VIP. If youre mostly driving in the city or taking the family on long highway trips, the Majestor is a "home on wheels." With massage seats, a panoramic sunroof, and Level 2 ADAS safety tech, it feels like a Rs. 60-70 lakh luxury car at a much better price. It's for the buyer who wants the biggest road presence and the smartest off-road gadgets.
Stick with the Toyota Fortuner if you want a bulletproof investment. It may lack the fancy screens and sunroofs, but it offers unmatched reliability and the best resale value in India. If you plan to keep your car for a decade, drive into the middle of nowhere, or simply want a rugged "workhorse" that never lets you down, the Fortuner remains the undisputed king.
