Is Toyota Working On A CNG Innova Crysta? Spy Shots!

Toyota recently launched the BS6 versions of their popular MPV, Innova Crysta. The manufacturers brought in the BS6 versions of the 2.7L petrol and 2.4L diesel engine. The bigger 2.8L oil burner was ditched by the manufacturer. The diesel prices of the Toyota Innova Crysta saw an increase of Rs 1.14 lakh which will be quite heavy on consumers pocket and to curb that a CNG version might be launched soon.

The CNG version of the Toyota Innova Crysta could be a relief to the cab operators as it'll bring down the running costs. Also, the sales figures of the BS6 versions of the Innova could suffer because of the high cost so to curb that the manufacturers could introduce a bi-fuel which will work out for the best.

The Innova Crysta CNG will use the same 2.7-litre, naturally aspirated petrol motor. In its petrol form, the motor churns out 164 bhp along with a peak torque of 245 Nm. And the power figures will see a slight decrease of 10% and could be only offered in a 5-speed manual transmission. The petrol version also offers a 6-speed AT.

This is not the first time that the Japanese manufacturer introduced a CNG version to the Innova. Back in 2009, a factory-fitted CNG Innova was brought in. It used a 2.0-litre petrol engine which made 132 PS of power along with 18.5 kg-m of torque. The petrol tank capacity was 55 litres and the CNG cylinder provided 12 kgs of gas. Also, the prices of the CNG model was about Rs 85,000 more than petrol. It returned an ARAI fuel efficiency of 12.4 km/kg.

Coming back to the Innova Crysta CNG then it is expected to provide increased mileage and the prices are expected to sit at a premium of Rs 50,000 when compared to the petrol models. In terms of design, it will look like the petrol model only and the only difference could be a CNG badging at the rear and the availability of a nozzle at the fuel filler cap from where the CNG will be pumped in. Oh, and the tagline could be different too this time. Earlier Toyota used the slogan, "Go Green With Innova CNG. Save More!"
