Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) unveiled two customized Hilux vehicles at the North Tech Symposium 2023 (NTS), an annual technology showcase event organized by the Northern Command of the Indian Army in partnership with the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) and IIT Jammu. These special purpose Hilux vehicles were developed in collaboration with an authorized external vendor and were showcased based on a comprehensive market survey. They have been tailored to meet specific customer demands, catering to a range of needs and are well-suited for military applications.

Toyota Special Purpose Hilux Pickup

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), in collaboration with an authorized external vendor, has implemented specific modifications on the adaptable Hilux (as evidenced by the two units on display). These adjustments have been made to accommodate a range of requirements, including those of the Indian Army. These customized vehicles underscore TKM's commitment to identifying tailored solutions that address the unique demands of special customers, including military usage. In doing so, they contribute to the ever-evolving mobility requirements across various markets and sectors, thereby promoting the concept of 'Mobility for All.'

TKM, in collaboration with an authorized external vendor, has introduced two distinct modifications to the Toyota Hilux: the Field Diagnosis Vehicle (FDV) and the Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV). These modifications are intended to meet the specific needs of the Indian Army and other specialized consumer requirements. Considering the operational and logistical challenges faced by the Indian Army, which are influenced by diverse terrains and climatic conditions, the need for customization and dedicated solutions becomes imperative to effectively address the challenges faced by troops on the ground.

In this context, the FDV has been designed to offer essential vehicle servicing in remote locations, thereby providing crucial support to the Army at defense sites. Conversely, the RIV is equipped for firefighting and rescue operations during emergency situations.

Toyota Hilux Powertrain

The Hilux is equipped with a robust 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, which can be paired with either a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission. Notably, the Hilux's remarkable water wading capacity of 700mm makes it an excellent option for tackling challenging Indian terrains, establishing a new standard for off-road capability.
